Beliefs of Harmony

A longer explanation of our beliefs can be found here.  In brief, we believe as follows:

1. We believe that the Scriptures which make up the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible are the verbally inspired (2 Timothy 3:16); (Matthew 4:4) and inerrant (Psalm 12:6) words of God. We believe that the Bible is the only authority for what we believe about God and how we should serve Him. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) The English translation of the Bible we use for preaching and teaching is the Authorized (King James) Version. (Psalm 119:140)

2. We believe that there is only One True and Living God (Deuteronomy 6:4) and that He exists in three eternal persons: (Matthew 28:19); (1 John 5:7) God the Father, (1 Corinthians 1:3) God the Son (John 1:34) and God the Holy Spirit. (Acts 5:3-4)

3. We believe in the eternal Deity, (John 1:1; John 8:58) Virgin Birth (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23) and Sinless Life (1 Peter 2:22) of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that “Christ died for our sins according the Scriptures, that He was buried and that He arose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:1-8) We believe that after His resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to the right hand of God the Father. (Acts 1:9; Ephesians 4:8; Mark 16:19) We believe that He will return again, (Acts 1:11) first, to rapture His Church before the Tribulation, (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18;  Romans 5:9; 2 Thessalonians 2:3) and then, to set up His Kingdom upon the earth. (Revelation 20:6; Daniel 7:21-22; Revelation 19:11-16)

4. We believe that eternal life is given as a free gift of God, (Romans 6:23) by grace alone through faith alone, (Ephesians 2:8-9) in Christ alone, (Acts 4:12) and not through works, water baptism or church membership. (Ephesians 2:9; Romans 11:6; 1 Corinthians 1:17; Romans 1:16; Titus 3:5)

5. We believe in the personality of God the Holy Spirit, (Ephesians 4:30; Acts 5:3-4) and the absolute necessity of His work in Regeneration (John 3:5-7) and Sanctification. (Romans 8:13) We believe that every believer must be filled with the Holy Spirit so that he can have power to serve God. (Ephesians 5:18; Acts 4:31)

6. We believe that Water Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances of the church and have no saving power. (Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:24-26)

7. We believe in the spiritual and Scriptural unity of believers (Psalms 133:1) but reject unscriptural expressions of unity such as the World Counsel of Churches or Evangelicals and Catholics Together. (2 Corinthians 6:14)

8. We believe that it is the duty of the local church to carry out the Great Commission by evangelizing the world, baptizing converts and training disciples of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:19-20)
